Super Mario Brothers!

So just a quick blog. Checking out 'this day in history' and noticed that in 1985 Nintendo released Super Mario Brothers. And Bam! Video games would never be the same. I don't know about you but in the late eighties Nintendo was King. i mean the king of kings.

It is kind of crazy where we are today. Just in video games. We have games that are so realistic looking. We have to rate the games because some have bad language and even sexuality infused into the game. Don't get me started on Grand Theft Auto. Something wrong about totally glamorizing car theft, killing cops and innocents and other lewd acts. But I digress, I do that.

I was wondering what else was going on in the late eighties that has completely changed our world. whether for the better or not.

Help me out people, I need your help walking down memory lane. It can be lonely when alone. But when you stroll down it with others, it is simply fun and entertaining.

My kids love Mario games--even today. They have the games on their PS2, DS, and Game Cube. I was never into video games too much. Mario has aged well huh??

Well who could forget the quick zips (my personal favorite, because back then I had the body to pull them off!), the valley girl talk, pet rocks, break dancing, mullets, roller skating rinks (can you say, Hello, give kids something to do and they don't get into trouble), miami vice fashion statements, and the every-coveted Cabbage Patch Dolls. To name only a few... lol

Love the old Mario games. And love Atari and Pac Man even more! My nephews have an old-school Atari system, and it's pretty much a blast to play. I also have Ms. Pac Man and Tetris on my phone. When I'm stuck at an airport, and have finished my book, it comes in handy!

Pac Man, Star Wars - the real ones., Bread Makers that I never use, post it's that I do use daily. Trivial Pursuit, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,Viet Nam Veteran's Memorial, Smurf's Rubik's Cube, MTV, Flash Dance fashion that lasted all of 2 minutes.

The thing I so remember and appreciate about Super Mario Brothers is the music... My fave memory of the 80's is big hair! Ha! May it never return!

My kids like Mario Kart the best. In fact, one of my daughters took our old-school Nintendo off to college with her! BTW, don't forget, it's that time of week again--time for the Silly Sunday Sweepstakes! Come play today!

Understand what you mean, blogstalker. But once you get past the rating, it's been proven, that video game players are quicker and smarter; have better eye, hand coordination. I could't believe it.
MTV! Video killed the radio star, which never happened! A place for both!
And a blast into the past!

Never got into Mario Brothers. I was to old and the kids were too young. Bad timing.

PacMan! & Mrs. PacMan!!! Loved the Rubik's Cube! Tapering or "pegging" our jeans. Wearing 2 pairs of contrsting color "slouch socks", huge tall bangs. Denim jackets were the BOMB! Punk hair started - thanks Cyndi Lauper. teen movies took off light lightning thanks to the "Brat Pack". Remember really skinny ties on guys? high-top tennis shoes, even if you didn't play basketball. mutli-peircings started in the ears...look where it has gotten us now... hmmmm....

My hubby is a HUGE gamer. When I met him, I also met Mario.
I am sorry that I can't really help you will the memory lane stuff because in the late 80's I was 10 and my biggest worry was how to get the boys to stop pulling my hair.

I haven't minded Halo, but Grand Theft Auto we pretty much guilted into having it gone. I agree with you. Lovely game if you want to live certain places and have certain professions!!

I've got one for you: PAGERS. No one really had cell phones until the 90's. But PAGERS were UBER cool. That was the beginning of the whole cell phone revolution! Good times.
